Default service light reset

Sorry no doubt this has been covered before but I cant find it

On 96, 97, 98 reg V70's I cant reset the service light.

I can use Vida on 99 on or just do the ign to pos1 push and hold the dash button then ign to pos 2 .....

On earlier cars you can use that jumper wire in the engine bay faf

But these cars in the middle are a problem, the dash button reset method doesn't work, I can log in and read codes etc with a Worth scan tool but it wont let me reset the service light

Anyone know a cheap tool that can do this or some other means ? I am handy with electronics so knocking something up would also be an option ?

thanks Ben

Try this...
  • Ignition OFF
  • Press in and hold the reset button for the trip odometer
  • Turn the ignition on
  • Continue to hold the reset button for 10 seconds - then the SRL will flash
  • Release the Reset button no later than 4 seconds after the lamp started to flash.

Thanks for that Dunkin £105 plus VAT will think about buying it

It doesn't specify what lead you need to use with it implying any old USB lead will do, have you any experience of what leads work / dont work ?

Any old lead will not do and I recall some members have had hassle with leads said to work which do not.

I paid around £12 -15 for my on Amazon, recall it is marked VAG on the label and blue in colour, Far East of course and took a week to arrive.

Sorry 😐 to be of limited assistance

youll need an FTDI 232RL cable. i did have a zip file of Vol FCR, struggling to locate it though if i find it ill PM you and send you a copy. i got it free so no harm in passing it on. Im sure if you put the feelers out on here for the setup file itll surface, or even for someone sort of local to meet up and use theirs.

cable:

Vagcom is the cable you want, loads on ebay, think I paid about a fiver for mine.

There's a free "Trial" version of Vol-Fcr available that will cover most things, just won't let you read live data or time a TDi.

Dunc:
From memory, FCR looks for your hard drive's serial number as it's security.
Someone helpfully changed my hard drive's serial number to match
