Default Difficult removing key 2004 d5 v70 auto

Another problem ..a couple of times I've struggle to remove the ignition key..just doesn't seem to want to push in for the final 1/2 inch twist and pull out..you turn it all the way back then push in turn a bit more and it should pull out ..second time I got that annoyed at it I smacked the steering wheel hard and it went coincidence or not I don't know..common problem...waggling the gearstick in park doesn't help

there is an interlock between the steering lock and the auto shifter
Unless the shifter is in "park" and the catch has sprung out, AND the steering wheel is able to lock you cant pull the key out

check the button on the gear shifter isnt sticking when it happens And check the steering lock Can engage , apply a Little pressure to the wheel to turn it one way/the other,

Ah yes I remember having the sticking knob button on another car now you've said that ..could a spilt coffee from the cup holder onto the gear surround cause the mechanism to stick do you think, as when I removed the pen holder to change there is a little pool of coffee at the bottom..thanks very much for the reply

yes coffee Will cause it to stick
it will also make the mech prone to attracting ALL the dust and fluff and gumming it up

strip the lever out, clean it totally
hang anyone caught putting cups in the cup holders

Andy D, just seen the quote in your signature and seem to recognise the name "skyship007"... Wasn't that someone being a troublemaker in the S/V40 area a few years back? I can't think exactly what, but I do recall they said some amusing things...

When inserting the key, it is always good to turn a little the steering to free it from the steering lock position just a little, this will prevent damaging the steering lock mechanism in the long term.
