Default My Volvo 460 1.9 TD ES FOR SALE!!!

Hi all,

My Volvo needs a good home! I'm getting a company car so as of the 29th November, it is surplus to requirements.

It's a cracking motor and returns amazing MPG for a car of its size and weight. I've put it on e-Bay at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1996-VOLVO-460...item2c58df0288

Default 460 for sale

Looks nice, hope you get a good price for it.

Possibly having the MOT and RFL both falling due in Jan '11 might keep the price down.

Either way, 64 mpg is great.

Just one thing - you've said the car has side airbags but AFAIK the last of these 440/460's certainly had improved side protection in the bodywork but not side-airbags as on the 850's.

Are you sure that what you have written is correct?

Possibly it was some final model roll-out option but I've never seen it mentioned anywhere previously.

Indeed, but i'm not after fortunes for it. There is no reserve on this car.

I've never set the Side Airbags off, lol, but it has the SIPS logos there on the vehicle. I've assumed this is the Side Airbags? If you are better educated than me, please let me know.

Ref the SIPS, it's only what I've read from here, wikipedia and a few other sites.

The side-impact safety was certainly improved on the Mk2 but I don't think the seats had air-bags.

On the 850 there is a picture on the driver side door panel ( and the windscreen, I think) which has up to 4 dots to denote whether there are 1, 2 or 4 airbags

I think the only airbag the 4xx had was in the wheel, so there's probably only 1 dot on the graphic.

Either way, it won't put anyone off your car - looks good.

Thanks for the offer of delivery but I'll pass for now - purse-strings are firmly shut by wifey until after X-mas!

Side Impact Protection System - original incarnation ( on 400 series) was basically steel reinforcement bars. that ran through the doors effectively bridging the door aperture. There were no side airbags fitted to the 400 series.

Could you provide some more pics please, date stamped if possible.
E-bay allow you to upload 12 pics for free so this may help with your sale.
Also - do you have a price in mind? pm me if you wish to keep it a secret;-)!

Hi John,

No price in mind to be honest. For the little amount of money i've paid for it, and the awesome economy and reliability i've got from it over the last 10,000 miles, i'm happy that i've had more than it's worth out of it, so anything I get back for it is a bonus.

I will be uploading some more photos at the weekend. I took loads last weekend but I can't find the data cable for camera if my life depended on it! lol. I'm going to use the camera on the wife's phone over the weekend to take some more. Her phone wont date stamp the pics, but if eBay keeps the original filename of the pictures, the phone normally saves them as the date and time. I'll let you know when they are up.

Hi,

anyone know if the headlight lens is sealed beam (expensive) or just the lenses can be replaced? (cheap)

Looking for something to replace the 740 which, although still running fine, has lots of niggles that'll probably mean it'll cost the price of another car to repair... unfortunately I don't have the time to repair...

Guys, took some more pics at the weekend, and they are uploaded now. Excuse the fact it hasn't been washed and the sweet wrapper on the drivers seat. I had to take the pics in between other things on a busy weekend. The interior will cleaned and hoovered at some point this week.

JdR, I made a mistake about the headlamp units being sealed, they are not. The lenses ARE interchangable. My friend who iss a mechanic came round whilst I had the bonnet up to top up the screenwash on Saturday, and he asked how the auction was going and told him about your question and he shown me how they were interchangable. There is a number of small metal clips which hold the lens on the unit, and it is a simple job of removing them to fit the lenses.
