XC60 -black the right colour?
I'm waiting for my new XC60 AWD R Design Lux (est delivery 1st week of March).
Against my better judgement I've ordered it in Black Sapphire Metallic. Has anyone got any tips on the best way to keep it shiny? (and yes, I had throught of cleaning it!) |

It depends black is an awful colour to keep clean but is easy to detail.
Best thing to say is when you get it wash with degreaser, wash, decontamination via tar remover, fallout and clay, light polish and then wax or seal. Very little gloss (shine) is actually done by wax or sealants most of that being achieved by the polishing stage and virtually any new car does have defects of some form it just depends should you wish to fill or remove said defects. Try the best you can not to touch it
Pre wash with ph neutral spray Jet wash off Ph neutral snow foam Jet wash off Hand wash with lambs wool MIT using two buckets both fitted With grit guards Wash shampoo in one then rinse water in the other after washing a panel rinse the MIT Jet wash off Use good wax finish image.jpg It's very hard work you could get a good detailer to coat it about £400 notes same as volvo but better job All can be found here detailing world Hope this helps Last edited by Daniel TD5; Feb 6th, 2014 at 22:49. |

I have this exact colour, I use maquires ultimate liquid wax when I got her new in October...
I do the two bucket method of cleaning and use maquires ultimate wash and mit...not cheap and a pain to wash, but once she is dried off, she looks stunning and draws a lot of looks, especially being the new facelift model with drls shining bright...

I've had a series of black cars. Lovely when clean. Now on to white. 😄

Yes Black is the right colour. It looks great to me. Me and Mrs A have had a few Black cars between us and she was adamant that the new XC60 will be Black as well. I will no doubt have the job of keeping it clean. Check out - hydro 02 or Permanon for keeping it shiny, not used these but the videos look good.

Why would you do two pre washes? seems pointless the overall process is mostly shampoo in sprayer go over the details with a brush, snow foam and details, rinse, resnow foam and do the 2BM on top of that (most detailers won't tell you that bit but it does increase the amount of lubrication available). Plus the usual limits with using 2BM are one large panel or two smaller ones, working top down starting with the roof then glass, then split the doors and other areas into two sections. The further down you go rinse the mitt more often with the 2nd bucket and back into the suds bucket as the panels get more dirty. I don't deny however that a touchless wash is the ultimate in car cleaning but very rarely does it have the bite to be able to properly clean without damaging said protection (if there is any there). Additionally using pH neutral on a new car (or new to you car) is pointless we want to ensure that everything is stripped from it from the factory to then act as a good base to work with, then polish back to remove defects and use wax or sealant to protect. I would avoid DW (or retailing world) beyond the guides IMO. |

Never use a leather...microfiber drying only.
I'd love a black car but It stresses me out with seeing it dirty |
