Losing Coolant - D5, Rad or pipe?
My 62 plate D5 XC70 has lost coolant over the last two weeks, needing a top up every 400 miles or so.
Since I've a Volvo extended warranty, I've booked it in to be looked at next week, but I'm aware that the pipes are not covered. I've popped out to the car this afternoon, before the light faded & can see a damp spot under the passenger's side of the car. I've not managed to crawl under the car yet, that's tomorrow's job when I've more suitable clothes on & daylight. I can't find my Haynes manual, but is it likely to be a split pipe in that area or a failure in the rad? Is there anything obvious to look for/test? |

I dont have a xc70 but I believe the D5 engine in my xc90 shares most of its parts. I recently had this problem you can read. The part is at the back of the engine towards the passenger side
Hope it's some help Rich https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...92#post2467492 |

Doing an oil change today on my V70 D5, slow leak on coolant also and found the culprit. Bottom corner of the radiator on drivers side on mine. Can only see it from underneath. Seems to be where the plastic side piece meets the radiator. Also a Volvo mechanic told me to check the radiator first. The intercooler is in the way from the front so I wouldn't have seen it and the fan blocks the view from above.

Ive recently has a similar issue,
In the end I spotted a dribble of coolant coming from the bottom of the radiator when I parked up (with a hot engine) https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=283398 New rad and its been good for the last 1000 miles or so thus far, it wasn’t obvious exactly what was up with it and took me a few weeks of watching it to be sure

As Peter86 on my '12 XC60. Leak where the plastic meets the rad. New rad fitted and all OK since.

Thanks all.
I crawled under the front of the car, but it’s far too tight to see anything apart from a few damp undersides of hoses. Car booked in for next week now due to other commitments. Hoping for a rad issue as it should be covered by the warranty. Will report back once resolved. |

After a delay on my part, the car went into Volvo main dealer and they diagnosed a faulty rad.
All swapped out under the extended Selekt warranty, which I’m guessing more than covers this years premium for it. |

Selekt is the best car manufacturers extended warranty available. While I had it on my XC70 I couldn't fault Volvo for the free support.

Of course you are right. The actual insurance is run by Car Care Plan who also operate on behalf of:
