I.C.E. ideas for an 11 year old wanted.
As we will be off on our hols soon with the caravan, I wonder if anyone has any ideas on electronic game machines that can be run in the car off the cigarette lighter that have a largeish screen.
I am looking something that will keep my 11 year old daughter amused while we are travelling and that can be used in the caravan with out needing a tv screen. Something along the playstation idea, but should be stand alone and larger than a hand held game boy. These things don't interest me so I have not got a clue about whats available. Thanks.

I would think that you could easily convert a cigar light fitting power supply for a mobile phone for most hand held games.
Just pick the voltage you want (for the phone)and put a suitable plug on the end. |

I think this could rapidly become expensive....are there any machines with a built in screen larger than a gameboy?
The next step up for be an lcd screen, and if you use a playstation etc then you are into the realms of 12v-230v invertors. What's wrong with the gameboy? Also it depends what games she wants to play... |

Apparently her gameboy is the gameboy colour and she wants to have a gameboy advance sp. So I will have to search for one at the right price.
Where is the cheapest place to purchase these?

Neil,
E-mail sent with photos of a device that may be suitable - a PS1 (smaller size) support trya with 5" screen (volume control, colour control, cigarette lighter power adaptor etc). Littlewoods catalogue were selling this at about £120 but an approach to the supliers will bring a considerable reduction in price. I have also adapted the rear ashtray in the car to fit a second cigarette lighter point for a permanent rear power supply for the playstations etc. Two playstations are run with a double adaptor. Permanent power supply taken from the towbar harness permanent supply. I can forward a copy of the e-mail and photos to any others who may be interested.

A book? As far as I`m concerned holidays are a good excuse to get away from the bl***y things! There`s enough to concentrate on while driving without various electronic squawks and bleeps from the back seat. If you have a longish trip and boredom is a problem, do it at night and let them sleep through it. Roads are quieter too and Dad gets a good excuse to spend the first day of the holiday flat on his back by the pool ;) Will Plummer |

Will,
The screen I described has full volume control and a jackpoint for headphones. There should be no noise other than the occasional chortle from the back. Also, with the direct permanent power supply there will be no complaints when the ignition is switched off with no chance to save the current game. This kept my pair entertained during the car parts of the journey from Edinburgh to Copenhagen. Nice restful time for us up front as well.

Just a reply for Neil, try "buyandsell.ie". There is one S/Hand in NI for STG 80.The Gameboy Advance is newer but I think only new games available for it.(ie newer games not available for earlier Gameboys.) Above info from my kids.

Well we looked and she decided that a new game boy advance sp was what she wanted so £110 lighter one game boy and one latest game means we get peace and quiet.
Thanks for all the replies, she does read books and doesn't give us any hassel in the car but we are taking two twin boys (aged 2) who we are fostering at present, with us as well so she needs something to keep her happy whilst travelling.
