Kentishdriver, thanks for the info, I'll reconcile myself with the fact that my grabbers are 235/60/18 v017, so will be more expensive .... if I keep saying that enough times I might even start to believe it myself

Full set of General Grabber UHP's fitted on Monday, and boy did they do well today.
Pretty nasty conditions around Cardiff, not as bad as up north last week, I'm sure, but saw a few cars going sideways on main roads. Me, not a problem anywhere. 12 inches of snow outside my house, what snow?? lol. |

Loved the Grabbers on my Discovery so have just ordered 4 (255/50/19) for the XC90. Used Event Tyres before and been impressed with them, their price seemed pretty good at £525.00 all in for the lot.
Now just what to do with 4 Pirellis with 73 miles on them......may keep them for summer use (July & August), lol |

i had pirelli pzeros last year - wish i could have afforded to change them just after i bought them - biggest mistake i made with the car, performance in the wet/snow last year was poor. pretty good on the run to france. the grabbers i've now got are superb and i found noticably quieter than 3mm pzeros. and 50% of the price too.

Why get a black XC90 instead of a blue one.....personal choice I guess. I have run the Grabbers and found them fantastic on wet roads, dry roads, high speed motorway, the snow of last winter etc and the wear characteristics are excellent too, they'll even handle a bit of mud etc.
I've run the Pirellis that are on the XC before on a Disco, think they were standard fit for a while, they just didn't perform very well in my view. Considered the extra £200 for Wintracs but the Grabbers were great last snow fall so I'm not overkeen on shelling out needlessly, figure if it gets bad enough I can't get around on the Grabbers based on what I know they can do then I'll just stay at home in front of the fire :-) |

Take the point and each to their own, but I cant understand shelling out £500+ on tyres when the tyres you have are new.
I had Pirelli scorpions on mine for the last 18 months and they were fine and coped well with all conditions. I now have Wintrac 4's (thanks Roy) which I put on 3 months ago when the Scorpions were at 2mm (£600 for four fitted locally). Must admit, much better braking in ice & snow, but for grip, the Scorpions didn't really let me down. |
