Hi Clan,
Does the V50 have the so called 'floating console'? If so, how did you route the wiring? Did you dismantle and route through it or just take the easy option and route behind it?

FYI, I bought the kit from volvo parts shop (same kit as I would have got from the dealer and the same price) so I'll report back on the installation.

BTW, you mention that you installed one in your own car. What model do you have?

Cheers,

iep

Out of interest, where have you located the DAB head units in the V70?, is there a good place where is does not interfere with the vents n other buttons etc whilst still being accessible to use safely?

Any pics available?

I am keen on the DAB in mine, experience in other cars is great. Might spend on gerting it installed.

yes the V50 has that console , there is a neat groove along the sidesat the outer edges at the back of it which holds a cable nicely ... I fitted my own to a 343 so the info not really much use to anyone these days ..

The last car developed by DAF...

My parents had two of those and before that a variety of other DAF (66, 55, Daffodil) cars with the CVT transmission.

Well done for keeping that on the road!

Thanks Clan,
My parents had the 343 and then a later a 360. I remember the car fondly. There was also a weird issue that we always had with the 343 which was that if you drove a long distance (anything greater than 4 hours or so) and then parked up for the night, it would not start the next day. Wait a further day and it would be fine. Drove my dad to distraction as he is a very mechanically competent guy but could never get to the bottom of this particular fault.

Either way, (and a bit off topic) I gather you have replaced the engine in yours anyway. Is the Gordini 1.4 taken from a renault 5?

Even further off topic, after reading your post I thought I'd search ebay for 340s and found this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BARN-FIND-...p2047675.l2557

Amazing.

Wee update to say that the kit arrived today. Nice to see a proper bespoke mounting bracket and wiring loom which are far superior to the generic parts that Halfords were able to offer.

Cost £25 more than halfords kit via volvo parts but the wiring loom is worth the extra cash alone as it plugs straight into available sockets behind the dash/stereo while the one from Halfords required spicing wires and wiring into the fusebox itself.

All in, very happy so far but just need to find a free afternoon to fit it. Wish a had a nice warm garage to work in.

Cheers,

The 343 is still enjoyable to drive and the pre 1982 is much more airy , more room in the back than just about all current volvos and a refined quiet drive . It could do with being re invented :-)
yes the gordini engine is far from a straight swap . it needs rebuilding into the volvo block and a few inches of the camshaft cutting off and various other modifications .. This is the EARLY Gordini engine with the hemispherical head , 93 bhp .. and mounted in line . The later ones used the bog standard B14 type engine fitted transversly in the Renaults but with a turbo 120 bhp ..
I have the original standard B14 back in now as i need to make a big bore exhaust manifold and fit a set of weber 40 DCOE carburettors or injection instead of the restrictive manifold on the original Gordini engine .
All for another day :-)

The kit now comes with a PURE internal amplified aerial (much nicer than the huge external window mount one they shipped with originally). I thought I'd try that out and see how I get on before deciding if I want to try an external one.

Your 343 sounds fantastic. Any pictures kicking about?

Cheers,

iep

Have you managed to fit it yet and do you have any pictures of it? Quite fancy getting it for my V50.
