It did for me, but I no longer have any keyless entry. Thats with the lid on.

Basically pop them in the tin and hold it near the door, if the keyless entry doesnt work, youre good to go. Each car/ key will have a different signal strength.

First sorry for the OP´s loss.

What I am asking myself is, what the thief's want the car for. As I understand how it is working, they could open and start the car because the key was in the area. But not restart it, after it went out.
Registering any part of the car that is connected to the can network of the car needs on-line connection to Volvos servers and should be impossible after the car is stolen.
That leaves parts that are not connected, like bumpers etc. Seems high risk for low gain.

Or am I am missing something?

Yes. It’s about as much safety as a unique chassis number. There are clever people who manage to run stolen Teslas which is as connected a car as you can get. The minimal connectivity to VOC is a minor problem for them.

I think you misunderstood me. I am not talking about VOC.
In modern cars, if you install a replacement part, as for example a wiper motor, chances are it has a chip inside and is steered over CAN Bus. Those parts have to be registered in the cars central "Computer" before they work. For most manufacturers every garage can do that locally. Thus there is no control if the part is stolen and criminals can use those parts without risk.
As far as I am informed. Volvo´s system is different. The registration is only possible if the car is connected to their own servers. Thus a local criminal mechanic can not install stolen merchandise into the car.

Yes, I think so. Or if the car has keyless entry, removing the fuse?

since it takes more effort than pressing a button on a keyfob.

yes exactly that has been the case since 1999 , there are some minor modules which seem to work on some other volvo cars of the same model , but generally they should not especially the CEM ECU SRS and DIM ICM with security info in them . People have already hacked the CEMs copying info to other used units ...

Really sorry for the OP - Such a shame and a problem the industry really needs to address. Its becoming just to common. Its why I prefer key-less start but NOT keyless entry.

As others have said if they are organised such they have the tools to do it they will know to get it in a container etc for a few weeks till you forget about it and then they can do what they want with it..

No glass or anything else could be seen on the driveway and I didn't know it had gone until 9.30am later that morning. This detail comes from my neighbour’s security camera but that's all I can see from the captured video.

I called 101 (Met Police area) - waited for ages so I gave up and reported the theft online. I haven't heard anything from the police as yet.

I have Volvo On Call active - that showed then as it does now 'Car is in use' and cannot be tracked. I called Volvo on Sunday at 10.00am but they could not connect to the car either.

My dealer where I bought the car has not been very helpful either - just said 'very unfortunate that this incident has happened to you and where we can help we will do all we can'.

I know that keyless entry is a risk to cloning but my dismay/annoyance is that the Volvo Tracking system can be blocked/disabled as quickly as the whole crime took less than a minute.

I hope that do I see the car again but realistically it’s probably in a shipping container now.

Steve
Just a thought, where you supplied with two normal key fobs and one buttonless black key fob, if you only got the normal fobs there may be a fob in someones sticky hands.
