I got a 3 tonne one from SGS https://www.sgs-engineering.com/gara.../trolley-jacks
Very very heavy but does the job nicely.

I personally wouldn’t touch anything Sealey equipment, I’ve found over the years that it’s cheaply made and doesn’t last the test of time and getting spares is a nightmare. For an extra tenet I would me tempted to buy this
Along with a decent pair of axle stands Click

On the basis I might need to jack up cars other than the xc I am thinking this might suit, use the saddle extension for the xc and take it off for standard cars. Double my budget.....

Sealey, Stanley, Record etc are now just names and not the garentee of quality they once were, however I have Sealey sockets that have stood the test of time having been used regularly in my work. It all depends on the quality control of the factory they came out of, but agree it can be hit or miss. This comes down to what you are prepared to and can afford to pay for your tools. While I advocate getting the best you can afford, paying a fortune for a one off job may not be feasible. As far as jacks are concerned, well they are a lifting tool and should not be relied on to support the vehicle. Provided they have the capacity to safely lift the vehicle and do so then they have done their job, axil stands or wood blocks then take over the support duties. If it's a quick job I confess to putting the wheel I have taken off under the car in case the jack fails but if the job entails hammering or leavering then it's properly supported. A point to note with the smaller trolley jack is the size of the wheels mean they will often sink into tarmac and a steel spreader plate should be used under them. Paul. |

Recommend me a jack.
I cannot recommend a jack for you, but I do agree with 4 X4 - with bad experience - that Sealey are a thing of the past for me, if they ever were worth considering.
I bought a 'heavy- weight' Saealey jack about 7years ago and it took their rep. and my local motor factors 3 replacement attempts out of the boxes to try to get me one which didn't creap down unloaded over an hour. We all gave up at that stage! Their final attempt one is still with me and it has the benefit of reminding you of safe working practices and not depending on any jack. That is the only good thing about it! It would be Sealey out of desperation for me now, although I'm not saying other makes might not be any better. |

I also purchased an Arcan 2000kg aluminium trolley jack from Costco and it lifts my XC70 no problem. It would benefit from a saddle attachment if I needed it to go higher but it works very well for around £70 that I paid.

Arcan looks good but thinking I might go for an SGS but what lift height do I need for swapping wheels on an XC60?
Is 530mm enough? My original 12 month pay back period is 2 years now if I get an SGS jack and stands.... Anyone else think the screwfix hilka look a lot like SGS? https://www.screwfix.com/p/hilka-pro...FQ6HmgodXXYLzQ Wonder if hey will be sending anymore vouchers out soon? |

Sealey
I can confirm some Sealey kit is cheap and nasty.
But, they also do heavier kit suitable for workshop use. I have one of these. https://www.tooled-up.com/sealey-300...&source=affwin It feels more like a 5-7 ton then the rated three ton. Extremely solid. Our old sealey was 2 ton and lightweight but I had no trouble whatsoever getting a seal kit for it?

when I had my Leon FR I bought a low-entry jack to get under the sills, and it was perfect. Now the Leon's gone and the XC60's here, I seriously doubt the jack will have enough lift for it....daughter's partner already has one, so it'll sit in the garage gathering dust. Although if the wife's 9-5 gets a flat it might do.
At least it'll get under the sill when the tyre's flat...
