Why do you think she needs plugs?
Have you checked the resistances to the block or something like that?

Bit slow to start, sounds like a bag of spanners and smokes like hell.

I suspect you're probably correct in your diagnosis in which case I'd get plenty of 'plusgas' or similar on the threads well in advance and do it several times as they can be sods to get out. If you don't want to do all 5 then you can check with an electrical test meter to isolate the inoperative ones. I think maybe our old buddy Cheshire D5 a.k.a. 'Sirobb' on youtube may have made a video.... in fact here it is:

I've lost count of the number of times I see people replace plugs and it make absolutely no difference. Common rail motors are not like the old days. Rail pressure is the main decider of cold starting.
These cars should throw a code if a plug is off. I would check the resistances or get the codes read before deciding to replace plugs.

When I had to change a plug on my s60 most annoying thing I found was my snap on deep socket didn’t actually allow me to get to the bolt shank on the plug. Had to go searching for a deep socket that didnt narrow inside so much if that makes sense. Make sure you have a socket that fits before getting to excited. Nowt worse than getting sorted for a job and then having to put all the toys away just to go back out again

Had the same problem as you.. My Snap On 10mm wouldn't fit, Luckily my local Snap On dealer had a blue point 10mm which fitted perfectly as it had less metal inside the socket!
