Default Blower not working

Hi, Has anyone had problems with the air con blower not working?
How easy is it to access the motor? I have checked the fuse and it has not blown.

Hi bernieschuster

The fan blower isn't too bad to get at. The most likely problem is worn brushes which can be fixed. You can test with VIDA but not easily with a test meter as believe it or not, the fan has it's own control module which is controlled by signals on the CAN-Bus.

What model and age car do you have, also mileage will give an indication of how much work the fan has done?

Hi Missing Lincs,
Its a V70 auto with nearly 130k on the clock.
I assume the motor is in behind the centre console/dash.
Thanks

No, it's behind the glove box, as I said, not too hard to get at. If you take off the trim panel above the passenger footwell you will see the fan assembly. I've never taken one out myself, I just go under there to change the cabin filter.

The Haynes manual says you need to take the fan out to get to the control module but I'd have a look first. It's the block on the end of the fan motor where the electrical connect is. Haynes also say you need to remove the glovebox to get the fan out. I've taken a glovebox out before and it's quite easy, just a few pieces of side trim to remove first.
