2003 s40 radio quality
We recently purchased a 2003 volvo s40. The stereo sounds great, but the radio quality is poor. It will not recive some stations that it should get. I was told that the antenna has been broken off and replaced by the dealer. They (dealer) also said that the antenna wire had been cut and taped up, a sort of makeshift repair. They said that the wire cannot be reconnected and that to fix the problem the entire wire must be replaced and it would require 4 hours of service. (not under warenty for what ever reason). Is there a beter way to do this. they said they would have to run the wire under the carpet and that is why it would take so long. I have noticed in my trunk there is a cable mounted to the ceiling with nothing attached. I am not really sure how to describe the wire other than to say it looks like an xlr cable for a microphone. Is it at all posible that the new antenna was installed, but not connected. If not what is this cable for??

Hi,
The cable you refer to maybe a mobile phone antenna co-ax cable. My 940 has a fitted phone aeriel point and cable, but no antenna is fitted. Des. . .

The issue has been resolved, some what. We took the car to a car audio store. The guy showed us that when the antenna had been replaced they had actually ripped the cord off of the antenna intsead of using the spring release... although the antenna went up and down, it was not connected to the stereo. The volvo dealership may have been the ones to damage the stereo. There was no evidence that the wire had been cut, or taped.
The radio now sounds pretty good and it only cost $60 for parts and labor instead of the 100's of dollers they wanted to charge us at volvo. |
