Rear shunt - further damage?
Morning all,
Yesterday on the M25 a car ran into the back of the V60 in heavy traffic (I stopped, he couldn't) and gave it quite a whack. The rear bumper is no longer for this world. It's still attached but all the mounting points are bent, broken, or twisted, and the rear splitter thing is mangled. Couple of parking sensors gone and the CTA / BLIS system is throwing a warning. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/i5...w2160-h1215-no I think that's just a case of bolting on a new bumper but the exhaust received a significant whack and is out of alignment down the whole length. I'm hoping it took the brunt of the impact and the engine related bit is OK. Told the insurance company that it's not really driveable so they're sending a loader to pick it up today. I got it back from the M25 with care but don't think that exhaust is going to tolerate going over speedbumps particularly well. Interestingly the City Safety came into play after the collision and stopped me bouncing forward into the car in front. My foot came off the brake when he hit me so it's good to know that the system works. |

Sorry to hear that. The engine mounts etc should be fine, the exhaust will just bend and absorb the impact. The reinforcement bar behind the bumper may also have been bent - only the bodyshop can tell that though.
The good news is, you're OK and no airbags deployed - they ruin car interiors! |

Look at the boot floor/boot sides.
Often the metal chassis can bend - if this happens then it may be a bad report when you get it from the bodyshop/ins company.
