Default Info / Advice on my 2012 V60 R-Design Lux Nav D4 163 please

Well hello there,

New to this forum and new to Volvo, now an owner of a 2012 V60 R-Design Lux Nav D4 163 with the D5204T3 engine.

I'm looking for some info and advice from all the friendly members of the community as I am sure you will appreciate I have many questions.

To start can anyone tell me about the engine I have? I see lots on forums about a 163 engine but it tends to be the D3, I would love to know about this particular engine including its capacity to be chipped/tuned. Is it software restricted or already at the peak of its performance?

How about updates; car software updates - are there any? Where can they be downloaded from? The same applies to Nav updates too please.

VCDS / VagCom - does this exist for Volvo? If so is there any things that are good to have?

Finally any general pointers, tips, or guidance on owning and running a V60 would be most appreciated!

Thanks to all in advance for your help!

Your engine and the latter 163PS D3 is one and the same, the D4 came about as Volvo also offered a 136PS version of the same engine which was badged as D3.

Polestar is the official route for remapping Volvo engines but not available for that particular engine. There are aftermarket tuners who can remap the car to around 200PS and 470/480Nm. You won't get much more as it's a small, light pressure 1,5bar, single turbo.

Software updates are pretty much limited to the dealer network at service time. There is a recent navigation software update which removes the need to buy DVDs allowing you to download the maps for free. The price appears to vary by dealership, it takes around 20 minutes for the garage to do their thing, the map is c.21GB, your ISP is the limiting factor here then about 2 hours in the car to update.

VIDA is the Volvo tool you are looking for.
