T8 timing belt interval
Hello
I have owned a 2017 XC90 T8 for about 6 weeks and it’s just ticked over 90k miles. I was under the impression from searching the forums, google and Facebook groups the timing belt needs changing at 90k. I had this in mind when I bought it and I’ve just got a quote from my local Volvo dealer and from a local independent specialist. There was only £50 in the price so was going to go with the dealer. I decided to call another dealership as it worked out easier to get to. The guy on servicing took my reg and called me back saying he had checked my cars details and the timing belt on mine doesn’t need doing until 10yrs or 144k whichever comes first. I’ve spent a good bit of time reading up but have never ready anything about 144k, does anyone know if this is right? Thanks in advance for any info. |

Your message also confirms what I have been saying on here for the last 6 or 7 years that Independents are charging as close to the dealer as they can get away with yet have about 40% of the up to date knowledge and experience of a dealer's staff.( except in your case perhaps !)

Clan, you are confusing petrol and diesel. There is a long and detailed thread all about this on here and I have referred back to that thread in some previous posts. Try a search on Google, but perhaps include my forum name, or voc forums and you should find it.

To the original poster, I know you're in Bolton according to your profile, but you aren't a million miles away from two very good Volvo Specialists. One is called Hallmark Volvo in Stockport and the other is Trevor Burgess in Hyde. It might be worth giving them a call to see what they charge to do the job nearer the time. You don't need your cam belt replacing yet.

Cam Belt change
Hi, I have a 2018 V90 D5 R Design and I had asked the dealer the same question and had conflicting answers. One was 10years or 90,000 miles the other was 144,000 miles or 10 years, a massive difference!
To cut a long story short, I went direct to Volvo Car UK and initially and unbelievably they couldn't confirm which was correct. My persistence and insistence that they speak to Volvo Cars Sweden prompted them to come up with a definitive answer - 90,000 miles or 10 years whichever comes first. I was astounded at their lack of knowledge regarding such a simple service related question, but it does not surprise me at all, having had many occasions to query things with them. My advice is get it replaced and have piece of mind its cheaper than the cost of a resulting failure and all the inconvenience and stress of breaking down. |

Thank you very much for all your replies appreciate you taking the time.
The dealer I got the quote from was Bolton, that came in at £880 and the independent is local to me in Wigan and was £718. It was Warrington Volvo that took the time to check that the belt didn’t need doing until 144k, Bolton just took my reg and gave me the price. |
