Resistor
Yes, I followed the thought behind the resistor trick. I am at present trying remote control to get mechanic to proceed as you suggested.

Hi Ian,
I'm about to change the ABS/wheel-speed sensor on my 1996 940. I used this video to work out which sensor it was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSDG...l=BagheeraTube I bought the sensor, and plugged it in, and the dash warning light goes off. I noticed that the sensor cylinder on the car seems wider than the one I've bought. When I looked on the Skandix website, there are a couple of accessories you can buy, one an o ring, and the other, a brass sleeve/ holder which fits into the the retaining hole in the strut from the wheel/outer side. It's strange that I've looked through all the comments on this thread, and no-one mentions this sleeve - do you know anything about it, was it there when you took your sensor off? Here is the link for the holder/sleeve, there is a diagram of where it fits on the page https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-part...-axle/1033342/ The volvo part number is 1387273 I was just wondering whether I should buy this part before I take the old one off. Thanks, Clive |

The hole the sensor fits into will be quite corroded. Unless you clean it out well with a Dremel, hone brush or similar the sleeve probably won't fit. In contrast to the diligent installations discussed above, I replaced one years ago by chiseling out the old one in pieces with an old screwdriver, putting a bit of grease on the outside of the new one and hammering it into the hole with a rubber mallet. This required a bit of care to line up the fixing hole for the screw but no sleeve or o-rings were used. Whilst I would not advocate this approach, I have never had a problem with it in 10+ years of use. It suggests that these sensors are fairly simple and robust and don't necessarily need to be handled with kid gloves.

I had my struts blasted and powder coated so the sensor fitted in fine. I think the brass sleeve stayed in though. I had to chisel out the old sensors which completely destroyed them

I got my sensor from ebay cheaper ridex brand just over £22 .been working perfect no ABS lights now skandix OK for rarer parts but expensive with carriage .saw them at ridiculous price on one of our independent volvo suppliers .get the ridex you won't be disappointed. I wasn't.
My personal opinion only |

The diameter of mine were just under 12mm, and if taking the hub off like griston64, a Halfords 1/2" drive 12mm deep socket worked very well in bashing the old ones out. Very snug.
I don't think there was a brass sleeve, and the new ones from polar parts didn't come with one.

Clivealove44,
I have no knowledge of any sleeve. I did mention in my posts that the hole in the steering arm appears to have a slightly larger diameter midway. The replacement sensor was a genuine Bosch part and did not come with a sleeve nor did it appear to need one, but it did come with an O ring fitted, although as I stated in my early posts, I recovered various pieces of O ring when removing the old sensor but I could not figure out precisely how any O rings should be fitted.

It's very strange to me the O ring detail I have just measured the diameter of a spare sensor I have it's 18 mm .the hole in the hub is 18mm so a nice sung fit a smooth rat tail file or chain saw file will clean away any rust build up then a coat of silicone grease before it's inserted that's my method it works .and a smear of copper ease on the small HEX bolt that secures the sensor
