Default input shaft bearing

The input shaft bearing is making a row on my car when its at idle.

It stops when you push the clutch in so I reckon thats what it is, How do I get to this or should I look at getting hold of a recon gearbox for if it finally gives up the ghost.

Hmmm, not looking good then with this amount of answers!

On a similar note does anyone know if its possible to graft a 6 speed gear box onto a 2.3T5.

Handy info to have if I have to change mine.

Are you 100% sure its not the dpf rattling around? Mine was like a bag of spanners rattling on idle before it was replaced

What sort of noise are you getting?

Its a general clunking noise, like the sound of a knackered car.

It stops when you press the clutch though, this is why I reckon its the input shaft bearing.

Clutch works fine and there is no juddering etc. The gearbox does feel a little 'agricultutral' but then it has done 186k. Most of them fast!

As RAN60 mentions, it could well be your DMF. Mine Started rattling around and clunking at only 11k miles but the noise stopped when the clutch pedal was depressed.

I was fortunate to have it replaced under warranty where it was found to be outside of manufacturers tolerances.

It may be worth considering over the input shaft in any case.
