Default Heater core o rings

Hi all, I replaced my heater core in January and all was fine until the last month, when I noticed It is using a little coolant m.

I have traced it to the lower heater core pipe is weeping a touch so needs to be sorted, was seeing if anyone has changed the o rings without draining the coolant, also the original core had foam around it but the new one didn’t does this make any difference thanks a lot.

Just an update I changed the o ring tonight without draining it, lost about quarter of a litre the new o ring is a lot tighter fitting so hopefully it won’t leak now.
