Default Pure Highway 300Di DAB, USB stereo upgrade

Has anyone fitted one of these to their car?

http://www.volvopartshop.com/pure-da...ry-12515-p.asp

http://support.pure.com/files.php?id=73

It looks like the hardest part would be finding and running the required supplies (constant and ignition switched). These would be easily available in the good old days of removable car stereos but I don't know if they can be got at at all in a modern Volvo?

Otherwise it would just be a mater of running the output to the 3.5mm jack socket in the center console and attaching the control unit to the dash.

For £170 on eBay it looks like quite a neat solution to the limited stereo that came with my car as it would provide DAB (okay, limitted use depending on area you live in) but also USB memory stick playback and ipod/phone playback.

That is quite a lot more functionality than the Volvo USB solution and at less than half the price.

Cheers,

iep

I've been looking at this for my 2003 V70. Halfords sell it cheaper and can fit it, or their indi fitters will do it. Its pretty straightforward apparently.

Yes i have , had one for 18 months now , a brilliant device , there are several aerial solulions , you should easily find a constant live feed and an ignition feed from the CEM under the glovebox , make sure you know exactly which wire to connect to though as there are a lot of digital signals under there ..
You may be interested to know that volvo have recently adopted this unit as an accessory from your dealer.. You buy the DAB 300Di and wiring fitting kit together as one . They will supply fit it for around £300 . I wouldnt let Halfords anywhere near it !

My next door neighbour needed 2 new complete headlamp units in his X-Type Jag after getting Halfords broke them while fitting his new bulbs.

Aye, Halfrauds will fit it for £30 which brings the whole thing in at £180. Obviously, the dealer will do it better (or with less risk of buggering up the dash parts). But I reckon the dealer is taking the **** at £300.

Reviews of the device on the halrfrauds website are universally positive. Seems like it really is a good piece of kit.

Does anyone know of a wiring diagram or installation guide that would help to identify/locate the required live and switched live cables in the dash? BTW, what is a CEM?

Cheers,

iep

Halfords are selling it less aerial at £150 a good aerial is £30 . When halfords started selling this about 18 months ago it was £180 Including aerial . You need to choose an aerial , the best i found was a telescopic one that fits on a fixed side window ..Those stick on ones are ok for the city but may not be good out in the country .

I think volvo sell the kit which includes custom fitting bracket for around £200 , £100 for an hours labour is pretty universal not extortionate ..

The CEM is the Central Electronic Module , the main computer for the car it has a fuse box built in . There will be a constant live and ignition switched live there somewhere. There is certainly at the back of the CD Player if you care to take that out .

Hi Clan,
Ta for the info I'll phone our dealer tomorrow.

Volvo Part Shop also reckon they also provide all the custom parts to allow for an easy installation (wiring harness and bracket for plug'n'play). They want £211 which is a lot of money for a piece of plastic (essentially £30 for the custom bracket) but if it fits nicely then I can't argue that it would enhance the quality of the product. Might be worth considering buying the kit from them or the dealer and installing myself. I'd like to think I'd do a better job than halfords anyway.

Cheers,

ieph

Hi Clan,
Sounds more and more like good value (if I fit it myself). Have you got one/installed on of these yourself?

Cheers,

iep

Yes i fitted one to a V50 a year ago and also one to my own car . I used a telescopic window mounted aerial as it was neater and more effective than the one PURE supplied at the time .( they dont supply one with the volvo kit apparantly )
