Anyway, the filter that came out was pretty clean actually, so I reckon it must have been changed recently BUT the lower half of it was sopping wet. So, I have a leak somewhere. Any ideas where to start looking?
Not good :/ may be indicating of internal heater piping failure (the coolant that goes trough internal heater leaking off). There is a plastic connector somewhere around there that is prone to failure, cant find the relevant posts about this but maybe one of the members can track you to it.
Are you able to smell/taste/feel if its coolant or water?

Does your car have sunroof? and if so - have you read about clogged roof drains? Those would usually mean you have damp footwells and moist under carpet aswell.

It did seem like plain water tbh. No sunroof.
I've just taken the skuttle off and both drain holes are draining freely.
Could it be an AC drain?

Just gave the old filter a squeeze (a la Bear Grylls drinking water from elephant dung) and what came out had no smell and was clear. But being a carbon filter would it have taken out the colour/smell??

Hold the front page. Just investigated the AC drain elbow in the driver's footwell, on the left - pulled the drain hose off this and water gushes out, bingo! Of course I held the hose tight to stop more water wetting the footwell but I had nothing to clamp it, after 5 minutes of hoping the wife would come to the window I decided to take my top off, slide it down my arm and use that to soak up the water coming out. Anyway, spent a while trying to get wires of varying sizes down the elbow to clear it but eventually attaching a long hose to it and blowing down seems to have done the trick. Happy days (bar the wet shirt)

Nice, atleast no major issues and quick fix!
Note to my future self: check & clean the drain next time when fiddling with that area of a car :}
