Random DPF discovery
Hi
I've had my1.6d c30 for 3 yrs now and have recently noticed a rush of air nose when increasing revs both idling or accelerating. Upon inspection it appears thst the top hose from DPF is severed. It's always been like this since I had car and not caused any issues thst I'm aware of. Only the air rushing out on accelerator increase the past month. Car performance is fine but just curious as to this may mean a problem coming with the Dpf ? Has been fine the past 3 yrs ? Last edited by Eastupper93; May 11th, 2018 at 09:48. |

Where is this pipe ? Sounds more like the turbo pipe.

It definitely runs from the top outlet from DPF to plug by side of battery casing. There's 2 of them. One from bottom of DPF which is fine and the top one which is expelling air. Like I said it's always been severed since I had the car but have now a noticeable jet of air noise under increase of revs ?

Ok, well that would be the pipe for the pressure sensor.
It sounds as if the dpf has been removed and the pipe cut to stop the warning light coming on. Was the pipe blocked off or just left open? If blocked then possibly the pressure has forced it's way out. If open and has been like this for a while with no problems then I'm not sure why it is making that noise now. Has the dpf been removed ?

That's what I'm concerned about, the DPF is definitely in situ and the hose has always been severed (rather crudely) not blocked off though, just open. but never had in issue in 3 years, although the noise of air coming out under acceleration is quite noticeable now. I could refit a hose from DPF back to sensor but I'm concerned about causing performance issues as it runs perfectly, just the new addition of the expelling air rather loudly. ??

The usual trick is to gut the dpf leaving the case for mot purposes.
Is it a dry (150k life) or wet (75k) with fluid tank ? It could be the dpf is there and getting blocked and pressure is building up and you'll not have got the usual dash warning due to cut pipe.

That was my thinking. I've never had fluid topped up, although previous service records show it has been so assume it's fluid. It's a 2010 with 122k on clock. Will pressure build up cause major issues ? Which is my main concern , does regeneration require pressure sensor pipe to be connected. Basically I'm just wanting to know is it ok to drive still, I appreciate your input by the way.

If it's wet then it should have had dpf replaced at 75k. It won't have regenerated with pipe cut.
A blocked dpf will cause a lot of trouble.
