New week, new noise.

A few weeks back I had the alternator and drive belt replaced. Everything was rosy, birds sang in the trees etc. The other day I noticed a new noise, from drivers side. A bit like the sound you get from the tyres when driving on concrete sections of motorway. "You're paranoid" I told myself. Driving back home today, my wife asks "Can I hear a noise?" Yes. Thanks, I'm not going crackers but now I need to find out what it is. Local garage visit on the cards in the very near future.
Any ideas please? The noise is constant, increased in volume with speed, It doesn't alter with gear changes. Unlikely I think to be a wheel bearing as it isn't affected by cornering. I've checked the tyres, no obvious damage.
In other news, the boiler's packed in. They come in threes I hear..

Stone caught between the brake disc and the backplate? (although that can be a sharp and variable noise). Easy fix/test anyway, to poke a flat-headed screwdriver through the wheel spokes and push the backplate away from the disc a bit.

Thanks, I gave it a try but nothing doing! Garage reckon it's a front wheel bearing on its way out. From what he described they're a bit of a bugger to do on the C30 so I guess it won't be cheap. On the plus side, the boiler was fixed under warranty.

The bearings aren't expensive but you do need a decent press to be able to change them.

Front offside wheel bearing replaced, noise gone. Sorted. Hoping for a few months without the car steering itself towards the garage. Things are looking up though. Several broken pieces of carpet Gripper Rod (lengths of ply full of short sharp tacks) lay in the road on a regular run of mine. I was over them before I could do anything about it, but incredibly no punctures. I pulled up and cleared them to prevent anyone else trashing their tyres.
