Default Stereo/SatNav restart hiss

Hi All,

New to the forum, so hoping someone might shed some light on this issue I have.

V50 2011 1.6d Drive Stop/Start SE Lux.

Lovely little runaround for me.

Had it for a little over 2 years and the problem has been there since I purchased it.

It's now got 204,000 miles on the clock.

So, you start the car, have the stereo on, you can have the SatNav working as well, but doesn't need to be.......

You are driving, then you hear a hiss and the stereo shuts down and restarts. If using the Factory Satnav, the screen goes blank, and restarts also....

I've come to live with it...but failed attempts to speak to my Local Volvo dealer, who suggests booking it in for a Diagnostics........over £100 charge to possibly find nothing or as they suggested, I might need a new unit.....

Anyone else had this problem and found the cause ?

The other issue which I found on the forum was when putting on the rear heated screen, the radio signal is rubbish. Switch off the rear heated screen and back to normal....so going to check the connectors and heated screen elements.

Many Thanks

Rob

That's easy

You have a scratch on a heater element causing arcing, which generates radio interference

Let the window steam up eg from a kettle and switch on the demister

Look for a hot spot that will defog faster - or a cold spot that will defog slower.
That spot, generally the hot one, will be the arc.
Repair it with a drop of conductive rear window demister repair paint, being careful to properly mask off the window so you get a small drop of pain in just the right spot.
