C30 2.0D - Which Injector Cleaner Product Works Best?
Hi there,
I'm getting the slightly lumpy power delivery that people often report when the car is cold and I'm cast iron convinced that it isn't anything mechanical. I'm therefore thinking that it wouldn't hurt to run some decent injector cleaner through the engine to see if it will clear it up. I was just wondering what people's experiences were of different injector cleaner products out there with this engine - i.e. which work, which don't, which could cause issues etc? Any feedback would be a great help J |

I use for some time now EcoMax Millers Oils - Diesel Power 500ml
Every full tank I add to it 30ml of EcoMax. No harm so far, on positive side I do not know, but since used this one and cleaned the EGR the consumption had been improved for 46 to 50mpg.

There is no in-tank additive that will make a significant difference when it comes to cleaning injectors...
Best option is Lqui Moly Diesel Purge - interrupt the fuel feed and return lines, run about 1 - 2 litres through the engine. Or look up your local Terraclean agent. In tank additives are generally preventative only - if they were strong enough to make a difference they would dissolve and loosen all the crap in the tank and filter and drag that through the injectors - not a good idea. Sometimes running a tankful of circa 15% petrol/diesel mix helps.

The owners manual for our Citroen 1.6HDi (with DPF) says "do not use fuel additives" I assume it prevents the DPF from doing its job.
I wouldn't think a bottle of magic potion will help things, there's a lot of components responsible for smooth idling and a faulty EGR valve can cause poor running at idle for example.

Volvo's advice is the same - do not use additives.
Liqui Moly can make a difference though if used as directed - i.e. by running the engine on it neat. I've not done it on the 2.0D before but I have used it on several high mile D5's with noticeable improvements. It's popular with the 200k+ club on the XC90 section.

Before changing injectors I have used injector cleaner for 4 tanks of fuel, after removing original injectors they still had carbon around the tip
