  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Default Immobiliser “try start again”?

oMy 2008 S40 sport, won’t start, lights on dash, power etc, but say the immobiliser has kicked in? Any ideas how 2 reset this please as have taken battery off etc but still same issue!

It sounds like your steering column is locked (SCL unit). Do you get the ZEERP noise from the steering unlocking when you insert the key?

Using a wheel nut, line it up with the exposed metal square which is just under the steering column and give it a wack a few times. The lock should eventually release and you'll be on your way.

This is only temporary though and will likely need drilling and a new lock/programming fitted in the longer term which is main dealer only

It's happened to me a couple of times, how long did you leave the battery off for ?. I found that I needed to leave the battery off for around 5min for it reset. Maybe I've just been lucky when doing that.
