Don't get me wrong. I love my V50 most of the time, but I hate it after dark on unlit roads. Had I known how bad they were, I'd never have bought the car.
Agree with that one, was only thinking this morning on my commute they are ****, even with Osram Coolblue bulbs in , but they are quite obviously too low.

You would think out of all features being sweedish and their long dark days that the lights would be bang on.
Yeah exactly, doesnt make sense really does it, unless they all spec'd Xenons

what process did you follow to bring them up ? did you have another car to compare to (side by side) as thats what i was thinking of doing. did you adjust both sides? did you use the white plastic stick to adjust?

yes and turn the engine over and have a listen out for any metal tapping noises, if so ... walk away.

The processed I followed was to send them to the garage who redid it for me. I just compared it with other cars I sit in, nothing too complicated apart from just being able to see a lot more ... but I also cleaned some of the connections as well.

...just a word of beware, if you purchase the car and decide to retrofit HID - read carefully on how to do it properly as its a much more complicated than you may think and if done incorrectly - leads to light failures and wiper motor dying. Involves disabling the DRLs in Volvo dealership or trough VIDA/DICE and some extra wiring to prevent failures.

good luck with purchase! :]
