Default Tow bar so many to Choose but which is the right one???

Friends recently acquired a 2010 V50 D2 lux r design (reg CV60 JJZ) and is wanting to get a tow bar but fit himself. Been searching for a whiles and still no joy. Many people have said only a few are compatible due to the low rear bumper.
Thanks in advice.

Someone correct me on this but I thought even though you can physically fit the thing yourself you still have to take it to Volvo or at least a specialist with VIDA to get the electrics working correctly.

That's just something I've read elsewhere. Not actually got experience of that myself.

If Witter, you will find the VL48 range will fit. They all use the same frame, but there is a choice of 4 style of ball. (Detachable or Fixed swan neck/flange) Do a search for either VL48/48Q/48QF/48S.
I bought my s/h fixed swan neck towbar cheap (£32...), then decided a detachable would save me messing about removing it from my V50. The bmax ? Ford uses the same ball, and was able to buy a s/h det ball with receptor. (3008)
I was lucky when I bought the towbar, as it came with a Right Connection 19260511RC electrics, which was just plug/play (receipt for £140.ouch) No software needed. The usual electrics you can buy should be ok, but enquire first..

+1 to that, have read a lot about issues with retrofitting towbars and need to visit dealership. As this is something I couldnt care less about, didnt really go into details, but I would really advise making more research before purchase. Maybe some V50 are factory-prepared for towbar (maybe thats why BJB had no issues wit it) or maybe the change is only required to correctly program the behaviour of rear fog lamp etc, but there is defo something there to fiddle with.

(my settings printout from vida for example:
JS01 REAR FOGLIGHT TOWFUNCTION Foglights running even when trailer is connected )
