Key unlocks but car won't turn on, nothing turns on
Evening all.
I'm having a nightmare. Been having random electrical gremlins for a while so today disconnected the battery and took the CEM OUT on my 2009 v50 2.0 (diesel) and gave the connectors all a clean. Put everything back together, connected the battery and the car won't turn on. The key fob will unlock the car, the milage will appear on the dash interior lights come on l, but nothing else will come on and the keys won't start the car. Is this an immobiliser issue? Radio can't be turned on, steering wheel remains locked etc. I'm by myself this weekend so have no other means of transport. I've taken everything apart and back together again, I've tapped the key in the ignition, held it at posn 3. Holding down the unlock/lock buttons on the key fob opens and closes the windows as expected Any help greatly appreciated. |

I've had the same kind of issue today when I came to start the car, a 2009 Xc70 D5, the steering lock wouldn't unlock although the key unlocked the car. The car of course wouldn't start and a message to the effect that I needed to unlock the steering (how??).
I eventually got it to unlock by jiggling the wheel quite firmly from left to right and back number of times. I got this from another post of here which said that an AA chap effectively did this and that it wasn't an uncommon problem, whether just Volvos I don't know. I must say that in the short time that I've owned a Volvo, I've had more than a few electronic problems to cope with. Personally I think that cars these days have far too much electronics gadgetry, never used to have many problems in the 'good old days'! |
