Towbar Bike Carrier - too heavy?
I've recently bought a V40 and need to be able to transport 2 electric bikes (not mine ) around quite frequently. They weigh 23kg each so not ideal for roof bars plus lifting them would be problematic. Even with the front wheels off they both won't go in the back of the car so the only option I have os to have a detachable tow bar fitted.
Just wondered if anyone used one of these and also whether the combined weight of almost 50kg is ok for the V40? Thanks a lot. |

Hi,
I have had a detachable tow bar fitted by volvo, expensive £750 fitted also adaptor leads for the different connections on trailers and caravans, they provide a cover plate for when the tow bar is not in use. I use mine for towing a caravan, check out Thule's website ,I'm sure they can give the info you require, also i think a company called westfallia do racks for towbars. Rgds Squidd |

Jeez that's expensive when you consider that a rack on top of that from Thule is around £450.
I'll check out the other place but of anyone else has tips or alternatives I'd appreciate it. |

Checked out the towbar fitting with Volvo and, as stated by the previous poster, the cost is £738 - that seems like a lot to me.
just some advice - is this worth it? Just for a 'Volvo' towbar or are the 3rd party offerings just as good? Has anyone else had one fitted by an indy and are there any issues with warranty in doing so? Any recommendations from the NW would be appreciated. |
