EBA or whatever Volvo call theirs...
Has anyone had to REALLY hammer the brakes on their S60/V70 ?
I was driving home on Saturday morning, quiet A road not much traffic about 70km/h limit which, unusually for me, I was sticking to. Flippin' Great Dane came bounding out from a garden where the gates had been left open. I hit the brakes hard and the Emergency Brake Assist* kicked in. After I'd steered around the dog, released the pedal but the car was still braking after releasing the pedal. Has anyone else experienced this ? Is it normal for the car to continue braking after the pedal has been released ? * I'm not confusing ABS with EBA. It wasn't the vibration you get through the pedal from ABS but a definite extra application of brakes from the car.

Yup, that's the EBA, I had the same when joining a dual carriageway from a fast slip road... look in mirror, look over shoulder...yup all clear, throttle down, check front.....whooooaaah, the car in front obviously wants a written invitation to join.
The sensation of having the brake pedal 'sink' under your foot is certainly a strange one! |

Yup this normal. Haven't felt it click in in ages though and only in a straight line. First time was quite spooky!

Thanks for confirmation.
It wasn't the fact it had triggered which I found strange, it was the ZX Spectrum like speed it switched off afterwards with which I found a bit disturbing. Another reason not to tailgate a Volvo. If the owner does give the brakes a good prod you'll never react in time. Still, it could have been worse. I could have hit the dog, probably been in all sorts of trouble with the local plod, and had to source a new front end if it had not triggered.

Hi, would EBA have been a standard fit on my 02 V70?
