Unhappy Instrument Module Problem

While my 2001 V70 2.4 sits forlornly in the garage awaiting what is possibly the longest part (fuel sender sealing ring and been waiting three weeks) delivery time from Volvo known to man the garage have been trying to work what is discharging my battery while it is sat locked and unused!

They have come up with the instrumentation module being at fault in that it's not going to "sleep" properly and still emitting "1amp"; thus causing the battery to go flat. For now they have removed the fuse and this has stopped the discharge but none of the dash works! I can imagine the module being expensive so the mechanic has come up with the idea of using a second relay mounted in the fuse board to cut out the module when the ignition's off!

Sounds like a good plan but my concern is will this interfere with anything else????

Do not know if the alarm system is tied to this. Might want to check.

Quick update on this one. The mechanic has finally fitted the fuel sender gasket and all is good there and he has put an independant relay into the instrumentation module circuit. The result of that is that the battery no longer dies but gregvet is quite right, it is tied into the alarm/central locking system, so now the key fob won't lock the doors, nor will the central locking work with the key! Back to the drawing board

This lot www.bba-reman.com claim to repair and remanufacture V70 dashboards amongst others. No idea if they can fix yours, but I would think it has to be worth a phone call.

Cheers

Martin

Finally got the car back with out the relay on it and all was well but then this morning the car had a flat battery again! Jumped the car and been using it all day so will wait and see tomorrow if it has discharged again! It appears to be an intermittent fault with the Central Electronic Module as the car had been fine for five days then suddenly flat then ok again! It's even been to Volvo who put it on the computer and said there's nothing wrong with it! There obviously is though, do you think there's any chance of Volvo doing the work out of good will!
