Default mayo in rocker cover

Hi, my B30A started to produce a lot of creamy mayo in the rocker cover for about 2 months. There is no oil in the cooling water and vice-versa. The car works fine and doesnt seem to use water. Any idea?
Thanks, Laurent

Are you using the car much? Any long journeys?

If not, take it for a blast down the motorway - it's a build up of condensation caused by short journeys...

Thanks for quick answer. The car is used daily by my wife to do about 30 miles in slow Devon lanes. I thought about condensation, but in 20 years of motoring, I never saw such a large quantity of mayo. When I removed the cover last Sunday, it was all covered with a 4/5 mm of the stuff !!! I ll try to give it a good run and see. Thanks, Laurent

It could be that the carterventilation is blocked. Check the oiltrap and the tube between it and the airfilter. Also check the tube between oilfillercap and manifold. If you find the cure it's better to replace oil + filter.

Flush and change oil might help.

It is a South African built 164, and, among other oddities, the crankcase ventilation inlet is not on the distributor side of the engine but I dont know where. Anybody any clue ?
Thanks all for your help, Laurent

Do you mean the fitting for the oiltrap is plugged off? Or is there no possibility to put a oiltrap as there is no fitting? There must be some kind of crankcase ventilation, check for a hose running from the airintake and follow that.

Hi, the crankcase ventilation on early B30 engine was different. It consisted of 2 pipes on the rocker cover, one air inlet and one oily gases outlet. The system was not very efficient because of condensation/mayo build up and I found out in
http://www.volvo1800chassis.com/work...op_engDir=DESC
that Volvo issued a bulletin to modify these engines with the side oil trap.
I am going to try that, and hopefully, that will be the end of the mayo in my engine.....
