Brakes - strange sound
Hello guys,
I heard some strange noise and it is coming from back wheels. It is like clicking /creaking sound and I can hear it only when car is standing still. While driving I cant hear anything. When I press brake sound appears, and it is constant all the time until brake pedal stops in lower position. But I must say that when I apply hand brake, I can press "foot" brake and sound doesnt appear anymore. My brake pads are stock and they dont have grease on the back side. Is that possible problem? It could be any number of things so take a proper look.

Is there anything specific? Anything you would emphasize?

Inspect your handbrake assembly , it is most likely source of your noise .
If the handbrake is not fully applied , the shoes may move slightly on the metal surface of the drum or brake disc . It is also possible you require to make sure the hold down springs are doing their part in keeping the shoes flat against the back plate E36 series BMW's are reknowned for destroying the rear bake plate & suffering from the noise you describe . Another area of interest would be the anti rattle springs on the outside of the caliper , as well as they caliper slider pins , If you have no grease on the pad back & metal sliding faces , use either molybdenum or better still ceramic grease as copper has now been linked to causing ABS system faults . Smear very lightly on the metal back of pads as well on caliper where the pads locate . Clean & grease slider pins & lightly grease piston face . But spray clean with brake cleaner to remove any dirt / dust on calipers
