Default Inside door release handle.

Good morning all.Drivers side opening leaver not operating door. I have to lower the window and reach out to open the door, via the outside handle. This problem started with the leaver catching and then releasing and lasted for a few days before failing. Inside handle no longer operates door. Has anyone had this problem or can point me in the direction of the fix? Thanks all.
Ps. While i'm on does anyone have a front offside door speaker? Getting the deadly crackling noise, I can then do both jobs at the same time.

Most likely the plastic retainer for the end of the door cable has broken.

The proper way would be to replace the complete cable but as the new one will come with the same crap design I would suggest that if you can make a repair to properly hold the retainer in position then that would restore the handle to work again more permanently.

Does the handle not pull out any more, as though it is jammed?

If so, it's as Andrew says

But all you need to do is drill a hole in the plastic surround (inside the door card) to the handle and then hold the cable down in place with a cable tie. I have done it on 2 of mine.

Will mean the door card having to come off, but once you know how its all pretty easy.

Yes it doesn't pull out to the extent it does when working properly. It pulls to about two thirds of the way then stops solidly. . Thanks for the help.
