Brake Help
Now then chaps,
I've got an S60 D5 on an 03 plate (Fetching shade of yellow too if you're interested) and the brake discs and pads could do with some fettling. It's an ex company car with 156,000 on the clock, and is spotless apart from the usual stone chips on the bonnet, but when I've been washing it recently, I've noticed a bit of a 'step' appear on middle the rear brake discs - looking at the disc face on, there's the hub, then the normal disc surface, then an indent about an inch across, then it goes back to the same level as the rest of the disc. I've decided to replace them with Mintex discs and pads from an online supplier, but while I can service the car with a bit of help from the father in law i don't want to strip the discs off then find out the job's beyond my capabilities, so, in a nutshell... Is replacing the discs and pads of an S60 beyond the capabilities of an amateur mechanic, or would you give the job to a local volvo specialist? (And if so, can anyone recommend a good one in Leeds) Cheers, Jezza |

You should have no problems changing you're rear discs.Once you've got them off you'll be able to have a look at the hand brake shoes ,as these can sometimes fall apart inside the disc hub.But to answer your question, you should be able to do them no problem.

Agree. Changing discs and pads on most cars is one of the easier things to do.

Hi,
It would be well worth reading through the link below as it gives a lot of tips and tricks especially to prevent problems when doing this job, although it isn't difficult. I found this very helpful and have done all discs and pads on my '52 S60. Take note of exactly how the caliper retaining pins are positioned because if they go back on the wrong way the brakes will be next to useless as I found out.
