Default USA Spec Ipod Adapter

Recently installed one of these things....realy simple to do and would recomend it to anyone.

One thing I noticed is when every you switch the car on, the speakers make a sound, like a small spike of current was fed into them. I know it is coming fomr the ipod adapter becasue it only happens when the stero is in CD changer mode not on radio or CD.

Wondering if anyone else with a USA spec IPOD adapter experianced the same issue and if thats normal.

Other than that I can't fault the device, its great.

A vague stab in the dark would be that the ipod adapter is powered from the switched 12v line, not the permanent 12v line?

I connected it to the red fat wire that goes to the back of the stereo, is that correct one?

Red would appear to be perm 12v, though the ISO standard is red = switched, yellow = permanent to keep you on your toes

Where is the ground connected to ?

Ground is connected to the brown wire, I wonder if there is a fault with the actual unit, although, during playback you don't get any noise. Also if the unit was connected to the permenent 12 V will it not always stay switched on?

I wondered about that but I think the actual interface is switched through the DIN plug in the headunit, the iPod charging bypasses this so it can charge while the headunit is off. Could be completely wrong though!

Surely it's just a noise spike when you turn the ignition on!, probably the filtering on the Ipod adaptor 5v/0v is not as broad as the filtering on the HU. Therefore low freq noise is picked up on the adaptor and fed into the HU on the serial input and amplified to the speaker. Can't see why it's anything to worry about.

But aren't those spikes harmful for the speakers, won't they get damaged?
