Don't know about the HU-603. The site I used as a reference has gone (it was here in case it comes back).

Basically you need to check 3 things...
  1. If the back of the HU-603 has an 8 pin DIN socket.
  2. If the cable is pre-installed. This has a 8 pin DIN plug at either end.
  3. If the mounting kit is available for your car. This usually comes with the power plug for the CD-player.

Depending on the year the car may come pre-wired.
Suggestion is you pull out the HU-603 and check the back. If it has an 8-pin DIN socket you maybe ok. If there's 8-pin DIN plug floating around where the radio came from even better (cable pre-installed, other end in the boot somewhere). The DIN socket looks like this - click here.

If the HU-603 hasn't a DIN socket then disregard the rest of this post as IMO it looks like not Cd-Changer compatible. Either change to a different HU-xxx unit (radio code needed) or replace with an aftermarket model.

The part number for the changer is 9488925. This is a Volvo 10-disc changer. Another Volvo 10 disc changer is part number 9472002. As far as I can tell these are the same basic unit except put differently in the same box for mounting purposes (so may not mount directly without some metal bashing). Be aware that they are expensive. 2nd hand from eBay and the like not too bad (but obviously not new, no warranty, etc.).

The cable kit I believe is part number 30660439 (but check with your dealer as different variations based on if wiring pre-routed) and should include the power lead(s) and cd changer lead.

Mounting kit is part 30730085 or 8682389 based on car year, but please check with dealer as I have been told of 2 others. Check as the mounting kit may come with the power lead.

Then if you've got all the bits it's just a matter of putting it together. The mount will be somewhere in the boot (or under the parcel shelf).

As an aside the hardware is made by Mitsubishi. I'm looking into using a changer from a L200 pickup (model CD-5852C, Mitsubishi part MZ312569). This was an eBay purchase and appear can be had a lot cheaper than branded Volvo ones. It looks like the same changer except the power socket is different. I'll post on this forum if I have any success.

Some people may try and get you to install a 6-disc changer. As I understand it (and feel free to correct me) these are for the Alpine made SC-xxx head units. They use a different protocol to talk to each other and will not work with a HU-xxx unit.

Above based on a post 2000 V70. The S60 and S40 use similar bits/parts for their cd-changer option.

HTH

Checked again and found installation instructions for 10 CD-Changer here.
I cannot attach in case link to site gets broken as file size is bigger than allowed size for this forum. PM me if you can't get the document.

Covers installation for model years 2000 to 2004 I believe.
Also be aware cars after a certain chassis number came pre-wired (as in CD lead, power lead/connector still needed I believe).

Document includes all part numbers required.

As said earlier, can be expensive sourced from Volvo direct, especially the player (mount and wiring not as bad). 2nd hand from eBay/friends/breakers/etc. a cheaper solution.

This link here would imply 603 can have the 10 CD-Changer option.

I do not believe you need any software update for the CD-changer option. There was a thread on here about it beling needed for the sub-woofer option, but again I think only for certain chassis numbers/year.

Hope this helps
