Default Diags Software on 98' v70

Apologies if this question has been asked a million times before, but searching through the threads I'm still a bit confused as to whether my vehicle is OBDII complaint or not?

I've tried using the following (MObiDIC) device before but it wont connect.

http://www.ukobd.co.uk/gstore/store/...p?IDproduct=41

Can someone confirm whether a 1998, v70, petrol 10 valve is obdII compliant?

What options have I got for reading the fault codes on this car.

VOL-FCR seems popular but was a little more expensive than I wanted to spend, if it isn't gonig to be universal - ie I can use it on other vehicles. I'm assuming Vol-FCR would work on this car?

Many thanks

Nick

'98 was a change year.

If you car has a conventional cable throttle and distributor cap & HT leads then you can obtain 'flash codes from the engine management system.

See the forum section on making a flash code reader.

The later post '98 cars (with electonic throotle) are OBDII compliant.

Hi Nick,
Sorry but your car is not fully obd11 complient, however you may be pleased to know the 10V can produce flash cods from its Fenix ECM..
The VOL-FCR may be costly in terms of the units on ebay but considering what it does, retrospective to the ebay items, it is value for money IMO....
Of course even with VOC_FCR you will need to build a flashcode reader....
Cheers

Had a go at this at lunchtime quickly.

The LED doesn't come on when initially connected as described, but I contiuned the process and think I have got the 3 flashes indicating 'normal' conditions which is a good sign.

Is there a way that I can safely force an error condition so I can experience a fault code?
Can I unplug one of the sensors for example? What would you recommend?

Also I see you can move to another pin to diagnose other ECU's

Can I diagnose an ABS fault using this method?

Rgds

Unplugging the CMP sensor and trying to start will throw a code but may not light the lambda light.... http://www.volvoforumsrepairs.org.uk...freareacps.htm
You will not be able to read the abs DTC's with a flashcode reader...You will need software or dealer equipment...
Cheers

Agreed, if you are unable to delete the codes using the conventional method both of these codes will be removed if the multiplug is re-connected and the ECM removed overnight (or battery if you know your radio code)......
Cheers
