Default What speeds are realistic to expect from a T5?

So much like the title says, what are realistic speeds that can be expected from a V50 T5 -04? Was out doing some runs tonight, and noticed the car has 0 problems going 0-100KPH, and only shows a slight "decrease" in acceleration between 100-150KPH. However, anything above 150KPH and it's seriously struggling. I'm not sure if this should be written down as "normal"; or if something is going on? It does sometimes feel like the automatic gearbox doesn't shift down as much as it should when really getting on it, even though "it did it last time", but that MIGHT just be down to the placebo effect.

I believe the top end should be 149 with a 0-60mph in about 6.3secs
Quicker acceleration than my old C70 and S70 T5's but not top end, they were good for 155 restricted......

Well that certainly makes me feel somewhat "safe" - if that makes any sense. Got this car 1.5yrs ago and, during that time, it was huge. Now I only want more, lol.

Always the same once you get used to something.

I now have a 2.4 D5 185bhp, had that nearly a year and I cant get used to how nippy that is yet, for a diesel, having said that, the mpg should surely make me get used to it a lot quicker, damn close to a T5 extra urban mpg lol

Haha, I bet. The D5's certainly got my interest but the diesel tax is a bit discouraging.

I always pay monthly, but it is nearly double my old 04 and newer 08 Laguna 1.9 and 2.0DCI's respectively

If its struggling beyond 150kph, which is about 93 MPH, I'd suggest it's broken. Even a "slow" 2.0D should be pulling strongly at that point

Well, I guess this is also a definition question about what is considered "struggling". It is veery difficult to explain without having some kind of video to "prove" it, it's definitely not fast by any means at those speeds anymore though.

Read this thread as T5 can loose power without throwing engine lights
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...ighlight=Stage

Can't speak for an Auto but my manual will pull past 100mph no problem.
Your ratios will obviously be different but for me, 4th gear from 60mph will pull clean past 100mph no problem in my 6 speed manual.

Doing the things in the above post as well as fitting a new fuel pressure sensor has dramatically increased the usefulness of 4th gear, e.g from 60mph 4th gear feels like how 3rd gear used to feel, before i replaced a few tired components.

My old S40 would get to 130mph without much trouble. It could likely have gone faster but I ran out of straight to attempt any faster. On a public road such as an autobahn I imagine it could have got to the published 149mph mark but the acceleration tailed off at about 120mph so it would need a long stretch of road to hit that.

The LPT 2.5 in the S40/V50 makes it more of a rapid cruiser than an out and out speed machine. I found most of the acceleration was always available 40-90ish where it felt properly fast.
