My S80 has gone in for its MOT today. Over the weekend, I was checking the lights etc & noticed that one of the front fog lights/spot lights wasn't working. Expecting it to be a bulb, I removed the light & found that the connector at the back of the unit wasn't connected. I can only presume that it wiggled its way off down a bumpy road.

I fitted the connector & the light is working again.

My car was MOT'd today. It didn't pass unfortunately (two major defects)... The steering rack boot was torn on the nearside & one of the exhaust hangars was broken. Even though the exhaust wasn't fully secure pre-MOT, I didn't hear/notice any rattling as such. I wouldn't have noticed the steering rack boot, as I haven't been underneath the car for some time. There were no other advisories, apart from the two I've mentioned.

Anyway, I suppose advisories are bound to arise at some point in time & much more can be seen when a vehicle is up on a ramp. All has been fixed now & it cost £70 in total (including the MOT)... That's very reasonable I think.

Serviced my car... Oil, oil filter & fuel filter. I'm going to change the pollen filter tomorrow, as it got too dark.

*All Mann filters used
*Mobil Super 3000 oil (5w30) - Meets A5/B5 spec.

How did you get on with the pollen filter? I've been putting mine off as I hear it's a nightmare on RHD cars...?

Well, being honest, I still haven't changed it! I had great intention of doing it the day after I changed the oil, but the weather has been awful since & I'm not doing it in torrential rain. My garage is very long, but not wide as such & I find its an easier job do it on the driveway because there's more light being outside & more room to open the passenger door fully.

Its not hard to do really. Watch this video, which shows the filter being changed on a LHD car. Its the same process, except you'd be doing it on the opposite side of the car.

Unfortunately it isn't the same, because to access it on an RHD car there's a lot of electrical gubbins in the way in the passenger footwell that isn't in the passenger footwell of a LHD car... I'm told that most Volvo serviced cars have been modified so that the fixing bolts are fewer and easier to access. I, too, need to do mine outside and I'm definitely waiting for warmer weather!

The 2005 XC70 went in for a MOT - came back out with a PASS and NO advisories.

I've changed the pollen filter on my Dad's P3 V70 (57 plate), which is RHD. It was easy & I don't know what "electrical gubbins" you're referring to? Unless, newer models are different, but I don't know about that.

You'd be doing the exact same as shown, but on the other side of the vehicle... as far as I know anyway. Its not complicated, just a bit tight for access & you need room to do it.

MOT for my XC70 today.. passed (just!).

"Offside Front Outer Drive shaft joint constant velocity boot severely deteriorated"

Surprised they passed it with that tbh, especially as it was a council MOT place, but glad they did.

Booked into my local Volvo garage next Thursday to be repaired, when will also be getting the belts done.

Fortunately the boot is being covered under warranty which is a bonus! Glad I did the MOT early as the warranty expires in 10 days time.

Bought it a new thermostat assembly, not looking forward to changing it!
