480 Electrics
1989 480ES, when I leave the car parked the battery goes flat in 2 - 3 hours. The problem is not the battery because if I disconnect it and leave the car for several days then reconnect it the car starts with no problem. I suspect a short circuit but have not been able to track it down. When reconnecting the battery there is a 'flash' indicating a current drain, I started by removing the fuses in turn and then rechecking when I eventually had all the fuses out it was still 'flashing' and I could hear a clicking (a relay I guess) from behind the glove box area. Before I start tearing the car apart does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks Steve 480 ES 480 Turbo 760 GLE Estate |

RE: 480 Electrics
Hi Steve,
Unfortunately I cannot reply with confidence. However, I am aware that on the Turbo at least there are some cooling fans which run for some time to cool the Turbo. This may be relevant as I hear the relays clicking behind the glove box. Can I suggest you join (free) the Volvo 480 Europe club where there is a technical section that may be of use. They have recently added the complete electrical manual (Swedish but still useful). http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/ gets you there. You may also be interested in the thread below regarding a meeting on 19th April in Devizes Wiltshire I have organised for the 480 Europe club. We currently have between 20 - 30 vehicles with friends and families. This will be great place to discuss your problem. Regards Chris |

RE: 480 Electrics
Thanks Chris, I've registered with the Volvo 480 Europe club.
Unfortunatly the meeting is not possible, I live in France and although I visit the UK 6 or 7 times a year I will not be there on the 19th. Steve |
