Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked but I've been through what seems a hundred pages and couldn't find the answer unfortunately.
Was the egr valve fault ever rectified on later models? I've just bought a 66 plate v40 and now a bit worried having read this...
I believe it was registered in December 2016.

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated

Kind regards

Liam

It would help your enquiry if you stated your engine. D2 D3 or D4? You've posted in the XC60/S60/V60 D4 thread so that means you have a D4 but in a V40? You will probably be better posting in the V40 section.

All the best.
Roy

Later VEA engines use AdBlue to control NOx emissions, hence EGR flow is significantly reduced. It therefore seems reasonable to assume that soot-related problems associated with EGR flow would also be reduced.

Both the V40's I've owned had temperature controlled radiator blinds so were operating in very different conditions to the other cars in this thread. I've never had an egr issue with both of mine.

All the best.

The dealer did their checks and confirmed that it was a build up if soot etc, apparently Volvo at one time paid the dealers to resolve this issue but have now stopped, however the dealer has kindly offered to approach Volvo to see if they will assist with this, will keep you posted....

Sent you a PM, don't just rely on dealer, contact Customer Services directly as well

It now seems beyond doubt that there is a design fault, and Volvo recognise that (and hence they have issued the relevant recalls, and submitted correction plans to the European agency that looks after such matters). Although some owners here have had to pay a contribution, some have stood their ground and ended up paying less than the original charge mentioned by the dealer. However, many have had it done FOC without a murmur. Everything was done like this for me on my 2015 D4.

Having a full Volvo dealer service history is usually the clincher

Yes it has a full service history but it seems to be if you shout loud enough you get noticed..
