Default Oil levels

Hi guys,

Just about to do oil and filters change and and wondering if the oil level issues i've read about on here also include my 1.8l petrol or do I just fill to around the full mark on the dipstick?

Cheers
Tony.

Hi there,
According to service manual, there should be 4.2 litres of oil in the engine. No more, no less.
That comes to a middle of level range on dipstick in my engine.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.

It's what I usually do, i'm not a "it needs to be on the full line!" kind of guy.

I think maybe the oil issues you've seen on this forum might relate to the diesel engines where fuel gets into the sump.

When I do my own oil changes using the Volvo capacity from the handbook it never reaches the 'max' line on the dipstick.

I was just about to ask what the issue with Oil levels was all about.

Changed my oil and filter in 2008 V50 2.0D a few weeks ago, handbook stated capacity of 5.5Ltrs with a 2Ltrs difference from min to max on dip stick.
Whilst pouring in I stopped to check when there was about 1Ltr left in the tub and it was at the min.
I have put about 4.5Ltrs in and dip stick shows just over 3/4 between min and max.
Checked weekly and nothing has changed yet.

So is the book wrong or did i miss something???

My oil changes are done by extracting via the dipstick hole.
I then need about .75 of a litre more than the stated 5.8 litres to get near the top mark.
I guess you can remove more this way than by draining from the sump plug.

If you changed the filter, it will still be dry, so run the engine for a few minutes to get the oil to circulate and then turn it off and leave it for 15 mins and measure the oil level again. Add oil if required to get it to the correct level on the dipstick (halfway should do it)
