Unhappy Auto volvo 940 wont start

I love my car, i keep getting told its old and now it appears frozen

I have 2 keys and 2 fobs but i haven't used the fobs for a while because after changing the batteries in one it didn't respond every time and i feared being locked out or using the key to open and the alarm going off or the car being immobilised

Now after i filled my car up last Wednesday, i went to use it on Thursday and although it has a new battery and it turns over it wont catch/turn on, (not sure if that explains it properly)

I wasn't sure if it was the immobiliser, fob, key transponder or the volvo safeguard thing i keep reading about
it wasn't essential that i go out but thought maybe someone on here might be able to point me in the right direction before i try anything, or use the 2nd key set

its a P reg 2.3 turbo petrol 940

Crankshaft position sensor or ignition coil. Both are known to fail, both are cheap parts. My money on information supplied so far is crankshaft sensor, mounted at the back of the engine below the distributor on top of the bellhousing. Check the wiring first, if thats ok replace the sensor.

The key fobs are crap on these cars. Squeeze the shell together then press the buttons.... little light iluminates yes? When you dont squeeze it the led is intermittent at best yes? This explains the locking issue. Dont worry if the remote fails because if it does, unlock your car with the key then if alarm sounds switch ignition on. This cancels the alarm. Very basic system. It has absolutely nothing to do with your starting issue. See above post.

Does the rev counter needle move when turning over?
If NOT, probably the CPS,
if it moves, probably not the CPS.

If your fuel pump relay is on the relay tray behind the fuses, under the radio, you can open up the console there and wiggle the relay, over the years I've had to replace a couple of those.

Try your other key BEFORE trying anything else!

Then follow DirtyRoosters advice above.

Also check and if necessary renew fuses 1, 11 and 13 - the blades on them may be dirty preventing the power getting through.

yes the fuel relay is exactly where you say and I ordered a replay that should be delivered on Monday, i will also try the other key.

I'm going to try the other key first I have checked fuse 1 and i will check 11 and 13

There you go, one CPS link. The coils rarely if ever fail, even at high mileage on these. Have a look at James' thread as well, there are a few pointers to changing the CPS in it :

Without testing a few things you'll just be guessing though. Have you got and know how to use a multimeter?
