Default C70 key fob replacement.

hi I have been searching the posts but I can’t quite find the answer that I’m looking for so If any one can help with this.

I have recently just bought a c70 T collection 2004 as I own an old v70R and love the feel of the old volvos, the drive the looks, the comfort, IT ALL!

My question to you all is regards a key fob replacement. I have called so many places and getting quoted ridiculous prices and most places can’t do Volvos. So what I’m looking to find out is- if I buy one online (not eBay) can these easily be coded to the car. I have seen a company in US selling these and wonder if the coding will work or is it different UK to US.

Or

If I buy a used one already coded to another car can this be wiped and then recoded to my car?

Or could I use one for the time being from the v70 and try to get that recoded?

Thanks for any advice given I appreciate the time on this, I just can’t seem to find out the correct info and finding a lot of conflicting information, but I guess that’s the internet for you.

Thanks.

Tof. 🤟

Hi Tof

If you can find a Volvo dealer, or an independent Volvo service business in your area, they will be able to sort you out.

The new or used fobs can be programmed to your car. It will only take 5 minutes. Or if you know what to look for you can buy a used pair of fobs and a module from a C70 and just plug the module in and the fobs will work. Look for a C70 in the For Sale section of this forum.

Is Alloa near Stirling?

Steve

Hi Steve.

Thanks for your message, your reply has been very informative and gives me the answers that I was looking for. Seen so many different comments/status in regards to fobs and was real unsure of what the script actually was. My plan is to try and buy 1 or 2 fobs either new or used from a breaking car say and get them coded to my car (c70). Failing that the option of sourcing a set of fobs and the module will be the way.

Yeah Alloa is just outside Stirling about 7 miles out. I will have a look atm for c70 for sale on here.

Thanks ur advice has been great hopefully I can get somewhere with it as not having the fob it driving me mad as silly as that sounds.

Tof. 😃

Default Key fob - ebay

Hi Tof
Just FYI. I previously owned a MY 2001 C70 Coupe that needed a new fob. The guts were fine but the plastic case had broken into pieces. Bought the fob casing only from ebay, placed the original guts in it, problem solved without the need for re-coding. A new battery was also supplied at a total cost of £3.49, free postage. Hope this info. is useful.

Some time back, I bought a C70 (but don't have it any more).

It came with 1 key and 1 fob. Fine as long as I don't lose them.

But, in a breakers I found a pair of fobs and the appropriate module for a reasonable price. Went to my local indy who got me a spare key cut and coded, (a bit expensive, but...) and was even kind enough the get down on hands and knees and grovel (my arthritic knees not really up to that!) under the dash to swap over the module as well.

I also felt reassured (aka smug) to have a full set.

I think technically a "full set" would be 3 keys/fobs!
