POTHOLE M11 Junction A414 Heading Towards M25
Just a warning to anybody travelling south on the M11 towards M25 just before the junction with A414. There is a deep pothole the centre lane as I found out when coming back from Newcastle on Tuesday afternoon in heavy rain. Hitting it at 70mph was not the best experience and it damaged the tyre ( New Goodyear Ultragrip Winter tyre and rim ). Managed to get to the hard shoulder and eventually recovered. Cost New Rim, New Tyre and Garage to check suspension. Contacted Highways Agency but I am sure they will wriggle out and not pay for the damage. Be warned if you are travelling on that road in the coming days.

They're pretty quick at doing potholes on the motorway so I'd expect that hole was filled before you even posted. Potholes in the motorway can open up and grow pretty quickly due to the volume of traffic and the speeds, it gets even worse when it rains. Every time a wheel runs over even the smallest hole the pressure in the hole is increased then deceased rapidly, when it rains the water amplifies the effect as liquid is generally not compressible, it like a load of tiny jack hammers inside the hole. It's why you can sometimes see road crews making emergency temporary repairs with the traffic still running, one of them will nip out between vehicles and just chuck some cold roll tarmac in the hole then run back as the traffic rolls it down, it seems like a crap way to repair a motorway but it's only to stop it getting rapidly worse until they can close the lane to do a proper job.
I do sympathise with the damage to the wheel as I've had four rims damaged over the past 8 years on one of the roads I use to get to work. As far as I know in order to claim against the council/highways you have to show that they knew about the pothole and didn't fix it in a reasonable time, other than getting them to incriminate themselves I don't know how you prove that.

In the cotswold they are pretty slow to fill / fix potholes, locals have been resorting to drawing mens genitals around the pothole which has resulted in these being fixed sooner .... It is also very easy to spot and warns others of the potential danger
