Default Shimmed or Hydraulic tappets.

Can anyone tell me if Volvo went from hydraulic to shimmed tappets around M.Y.99 ?
My valve stem seals are shot and due to the mileage was going to just take the head off and replace them along with the cracked exhaust manifiold.
But my thoughts were if the seats needed a bit of refacing and if i was going to have to get shims or not.
I'd rather have as much to hand parts wise before doing the job than taking forever to get bits after it's been stripped.
Done plenty heads just never one of these.

yes they did maybe a year or two later though , they did not have shims but the complete followers were various thicknesses to suit .

So it's likely on a 99 MY it would still be hydraulic followers at an educated guess ?

Right ... 1999 model year is hydraulic ... 2000 model year are selective sizes
