Default Abs sensor fault

2007 volvo S80
Had abs/traction control light come on and stay on. Whilst waiting for new part car would go into strange limp mode, ie wouldn't go out of 2nd gear. Sometimes turning traction control off would stop limp mode kicking in.

Took old sensor out(front passenger side) looked worn on bottom. Fitted new one, light was still on for couple of yards. Drove car about 30 miles with no faults. Went shopping and lights back on, checked with icarsoft meter and front passenger side faulty abs sensor. Other than stop going shopping, any ideas what to check now.
Think mine doesn't have abs ring on drive shaft

It's not a limp home mode - it thinks the car is skidding due to false readings so throttles back the engine - hence switching off DTSC stops it.

You do have a ABS ring - but on these models its a smooth band not a castellated ring. To replace the ring you have to change the driveshaft.

If the sensor has come into contact with the ring then it's probably the wheel bearing that's gone.

Make a note of when the light comes on - is it on bends? If so its most likely wheel bearing.

Could also be a wiring fault which has been 99% of the ABS issues I've had. Also check your tyre pressures are all the same as low tyre rotates at a different speed and causes false positives in the ABS ECU. You have replaced your sensor but dirt being thrown off the castleations and rotating hub sticking to the sensor can casue warnings too. Follow your wiring back and unplug and replug the connectors, also looking for breaks in the wiring where it has been rubbing against the chassis.

Took wheel off this morning and removed sensor, when shining torch into sensor hole, looks like the band on drive shaft has splits in when turning disc.
Going to get another drive shaft. Is J&R on fleebay any good for drive shafts?
