I've been running the MTE remap in my 2009 S40 D5 for approx. 20 months now (16000 miles) and I can thoroughly recommend it to those who are considering a remap. I re-mapped it just after its 3rd birthday (when the warranty ran out) and I can report that the transformation has been incredible with effortless overtaking ability in 4th, 5th and 6th. I can also add that I haven't noticed any detrimental affect on the fuel consumption. So far,so good and with the car running so well, it has also encouraged me to hold onto my car longer than usual, saving me £000s in depreciation

Now done about 1000 miles since the remap. Initial signs on fuel economy are good, after some early worries due to be being a fuss arse. Obviously on the first tank load it was lower as I was "testing" it, but having now done some boring motorway runs and a rural run from Cardiff through mid Wales I can confirm that the economy seems totally unaffected.
Performance still impressing - particularly for overtaking dawdlers and caravans on the way through Mid Wales it is far safer than it was pre-remap. Very pleased. |

Also have a 2008 manual D5 C70, so really interested how your car performs. Is the fuel economy improved at all - I guess not but thought it worth asking. Also any signs of clutch slip or DPF problems?

So far nothing at all. I do a lot of the sort of miles that don't trouble a DPF though. No clutch problems and everything I can find suggests the 2nd generation and on D5s have very strong clutches and few DMF problems.
I'm actually down your way quite a bit and can probably take you out to show you the difference some time. I know people always justify what they've spent the money on to make themselves feel better but I'd be really very upset to go back to the stock tune now. For overtaking on windy 60MPH roads up through Mid Wales it's totally transformed the performance but the most obvious thing is the way it now pulls hard from 60MPH in 6th gear. Fuel economy is certainly no worse, but I couldn't say if it's better. Last edited by dme123; Aug 21st, 2014 at 13:40. |

Thanks for the answers, much appreciated. Yes, if you are close by, then I would love to see how it goes. I work at Port Talbot steelworks if you pass that at all.

Your problem is you have another car that is faster, where as I have a 15dci for the day job and consequently my 2008 C70 D5 Auto weekend toy seems quick in comparison lol

Just driven from central Cardiff to rural Staffordshire on the M4/M5/M6 all the way. Terrible rain so no more than 60MPH and lots of 50MPH sections due to the roadworks, and some creepy crawly bits of traffic. Averaged 56.1MPG! I suspect if you had the patience to do a 60MPH motorway trip up to Edinburgh or similar, with little to no traffic, a genuine 60MPG+ should be possible. Bear in mind that I never got more than about 35MPG from a Jaguar S-Type diesel and rarely get good economy from my cars due to my "enthusiastic" driving style, so I'm no hypermiler. In summary, it is safe to say that the MTE remap has not harmed my fuel economy at all. |
